The Chugach, Wrangell, and Saint Elias ranges converge here in what is often referred to as the "mountain kingdom of North America." The largest unit of the National Park System, this spectacular wilderness includes the continent's largest assemblage of glaciers, and greatest collection of peaks above 16,000 feet, including 18,008’ Mount St. Elias, the second highest peak in the United States.
Unlike Denali NP, this national park is waiting for you to discover its treasures on your own initiative. There are no visitor centers with busses lined up to bring you into the park. This is pure wilderness, and you can be part of it.

Only few roads lead into this park.
In the northern part of the park, 42-mile Nabesna Road leads southeast from the Tok Cutoff.
McCarthy Road, 53 miles, leads off the Edgerton Highway into the heart of the park.
Both these roads are gravel roads and most rental car companies won't allow you to drive their cars on these roads. If you wish to drive to McCarthy, or to explore the scenic Nabesna Rd, check our SUV/truck and Camper rentals. All of our vehicles are allowed on gravel roads.
