Walrus Viewing

4 days/3 nights from/to King Salmon

Your home while on this tour will be Crystal Creek Lodge, a beautiful 7,500 sq. ft. building made of massive scribed logs and river rock The lodging facility is impeccably built, completely modern, warm, quaint and tastefully decorated. The Lodge is located on a bluff overlooking the Naknek River on the Alaska Peninsula in the Bristol Bay area. This area is world famous for extraordinary river and stream fishing, wildlife viewing, photography, hiking, and scenery.
The Lodge is six miles east of King Salmon, Alaska and six miles west of Katmai National Park and Preserve, one of the oldest, largest and most famous National Parks in America.

There are few places in the world to easily see wild Pacific Walrus, and one of most accessible sites is within easy reach of the lodge. You will fly two hours south along the shores of the Alaska Peninsula Wildlife Refuge to land on a sand beach. After walking a short distance, you will be at the edge of a herd of walrus. Walrus are very gregarious and vocal, so visiting here is a guaranteed feast for the senses. Depending on when you visit, there can be 50 to 5000 of these massive animals hauled out on the beach and bobbing just offshore.
